Letterhead. Artist J.T. Harwood designed this letterhead for the Jubilee Commission called "Dream of the Pioneer." Two versions of the lithographic design were printed, one reading "Pioneer Jubilee" and "Semi-Centennial Commission." The stationary was used for correspondence relating to the event. While the pioneer sleeps among the pastoral, untouched landscape of the American West, a circled wagon train can be seen in the background, while the ultimate pioneer symbol, the ox yoke, rests in the foreground. The sleeping pioneer dreams of a rising sun over the panorama of Salt Lake while a locomotive and other "promising" signs of industrialization pepper the image. |
